The home of the Port Adelaide Football Club, Alberton Oval, plays host to the Aboriginal Power Cup. Windsor is one of approximately 37 schools around metropolitan and country South Australia whose Indigenous students take part in the event.
Whilst the students enjoy playing footy, they also learn about their culture, leadership and careers, with the Port Adelaide Football Club hosting career and lifestyle expos inbetween games in the clubrooms. There are several famous guest speakers and VIPs, with our students having the opportunity to meet and mingle with them. On the final day, students can participate in a cultural ‘long walk’ around the city, visiting locations such as Victoria Square, Art Gallery, Museum and the new Aboriginal War Memorial before heading to an AFL game at Adelaide Oval.
Prior to the games taking place, students have to complete tasks in order to meet the requirements for SACE credits. At Windsor, our students in the past have created a cultural mural, team war cry and a dance. They also have completed tasks from the Power Cup booklet. Windsor has previously been awarded best guernsey design for the carnival.
It is a wonderful experience for all students involved. Our teams represent the school in an outstanding fashion, display good sportsmanship and complete all tasks set during the Power Cup course.
