The Flexible Learning Centre operates as a tutorial room where students can come to get help in individual lessons. Students with Negotiated Education Plans (NEP’s) get support with their mainstream class work. However, all students can negotiate to come for extra teacher help when required. English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) students also regularly access support through this centre. Most additional support for NEP students occurs in mainstream classes with Student Support Officers (SSO’s). The Flexible Learning Centre offers small group work and one-on-one literacy or numeracy when required. The main emphasis in our program is to foster independence and develop self-reliance.
Supports offered:
- One-on-one basic skills development for literacy and numeracy (primarily, for NEP students)
- In class SSO support in mainstream classes
- Community volunteer tutors
- Link with community agencies
- A quiet study area for senior students needing help with assignments
- Senior students with disabilities linked to out of school transition programs/courses through Prospect Transition Centre and The City Program
- Opportunity to participate in disability sport carnivals
- Senior NEP students, in the last 6 months of school can be linked with Disability Job Agencies - if this is an appropriate transition from school
