Shania is one of our Year 12 CHI students at WGSC. This year she was selected to attend the South Australian Aboriginal Sports and Training Academy (SAASTA) to complete her Certificate III in Sports and Recreation. She is the first deaf student to be enrolled in a course at the centre. As Shania's first language is Auslan she is supported at SAASTA with a bilingual SSO who helps her with her communication with the other participants and with the teachers. As a result many of the students are also learning some Auslan in an effort to communicate with Shania.

Shania is an active member of the Aboriginal community at WGSC. She has participated in many events including the Power Cup in 2016 (in which her team placed forth), the cultural dance prior to the Port Adelaide v. West Coast AFL game during the Indigenous Round, was a member of the girls group and also helped in the preparation for the Elders Morning Tea as a part of Reconciliation Week.

Well done Shania!
